If your mental model of Arizona voting is a single Tuesday in a school gym, you are describing a minority of ballots. Early voting — by mail and at voting locations before Election Day — is the main stage.

When Arizona ballots are cast
Most ballots are decided before Election Day. Exact shares vary by cycle and county.

Mail and early ballots create a verification chain. Affidavit signatures are compared to registration records. Mismatches can trigger a cure process that gives voters a chance to confirm their ballot. That process is not "finding votes." It is the statutory alternative to discarding a ballot over a signature that a voter can verify.
Drop boxes exist to reduce dependence on postal timing and to give voters a controlled return option. Chain-of-custody procedures, observation, and logging are the legitimate oversight questions. Fantasies about unattended boxes inventing ballots are not a substitute for reading the county's published procedures.
Election Day still matters. Some voters prefer it. Some races and turnout patterns still move that day. But unofficial results on election night are often incomplete precisely because early ballots outstanding, provisional ballots, and cure traffic are not finished. Adults wait for the categorized counts.
Parties know this calendar and organize around it. That is legal. Voters should know it too. Returning a ballot early is not a lesser form of citizenship. Neither is voting on Tuesday. Both are subject to the same eligibility rules.
Policy fights about early voting should be fought with operational evidence: rejection rates, cure success rates, delivery failures, wait times, and accessibility. If a reform cannot state which failure mode it fixes, it is branding.
Confidence comes from dull excellence: clear tracking tools, fast cure contact, public remaining-ballot dashboards, and rules that do not change mid-count. Arizona has improved some of that infrastructure. It should keep publishing the receipts.
